Interests

Outside of work, curiosity has probably been the constant that has shaped me the most. Whether it is understanding a new technology, exploring an unfamiliar place or figuring out how something was built, I enjoy discovering how things work and why they were designed the way they are.

That curiosity often has its roots in technology. I enjoy experimenting with new hardware and software, exploring AI models and trying out new tools. Quite often, I will take something apart - not because it is broken, but simply because I want to understand the thinking behind it. Every product represents a series of decisions, compromises and ideas, and I find it fascinating to discover how those decisions came together.

Artificial intelligence has become another area where that curiosity finds an outlet. Rather than following every new trend, I am interested in practical applications that help people solve real problems or make everyday work a little easier. Watching the field evolve is fascinating, but finding practical ways to apply it and helping people benefit from it is even more rewarding.

When I travel, you will rarely find me spending an entire holiday by the pool. I prefer driving or walking around, exploring and gradually building an understanding of the place I am visiting. The main reason I'm particularly drawn to islands is the fact that there is a natural limit to what can be explored. This in turn allows me to enjoy the journey without the feeling that I've only scratched the surface. When it's time to head home again, I usually leave with the satisfying feeling that I have seen everything I set out to discover.

Back home, that same curiosity continues in different forms. Photography encourages me to slow down, and in doing so I often notice details that people around me overlook. Cycling, taking the boat out for a ride or the occasional fishing trip provide a welcome change of pace, while radio-controlled vehicles and my drone satisfy my enjoyment of experimenting with technology in a more playful way.

Food is another hobby I genuinely enjoy, especially when it involves a grill. I appreciate quality ingredients and well-made equipment, but I do not believe everything needs to become a science project. My approach is fairly pragmatic: achieving tasty results with sensible effort. Over the years, that philosophy has served me well. Best of all, the people I have cooked for seem to agree.

Since I managed to obtain a property by the water, I have also discovered the satisfaction of gardening and improving the property itself. After a day of meetings, conversations and solving problems, working with my hands offers a completely different kind of balance. Things grow at their own pace, most projects take more time than initially planned, and that is perfectly fine.

Although these interests may seem quite different at first glance, they are all driven by the same curiosity. Whether I am exploring a new place, experimenting with technology, preparing a meal or working around the house, I enjoy understanding how things work, improving them where I can and learning something new along the way.
